"Homecoming” holds a special place in my heart because it embodies the essence of connection and the enduring bonds that shape our stories.
We all have those childhood friends that feel like home - no matter how much time has passed or how far apart life has taken us, reconnecting always feels seamless, as if no time has passed at all. Growing up in Los Angeles during the 90s before moving to NYC, I’ve remained close to my best friends from middle school. Whenever we reconnect, it’s as though time stands still.
Through this project, I sought to celebrate the ever-evolving stories of Asian cultures and the relationships that have shaped them. Representation matters, and for too long, Asian communities have been confined to narrow, stereotypical portrayals in media. I aimed to shift that "monolith" narrative by featuring an all-Asian cast and showcasing the rich diversity within our cultures while photographing them in a light that is aspirational and relatable.
In essence, "Homecoming" is a reflection of the enduring bonds that make our voices resonate universally, honoring the shared stories and cultural interconnectedness that remind us of the strength and beauty of our roots.
