Last Sunday, Lilly Singh closed out the awards season at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. Dressed in a liquid silvery-green blue gown by Rhea Costa, Singh delivered what her stylist Benjamin Holtrop called “a statement of confident, feminine glamour.”
After years of navigating how to express her queerness through fashion, Singh arrived at the event with a renewed sense of self, one that is unapologetically fluid and on her own terms. The tailored gown draped across her body in effortless folds, striking a balance between delicate and daring.
“When I initially came out in 2019, I felt pressured to dress a certain way to validate my queerness,” Singh shared. “But I’m currently in my ‘do whatever I want’ era, which means honoring all of my complex layers.”
Over the years, Singh built a signature red carpet style rooted in sharp tailoring and androgynous silhouettes. Switching things up for the after party, her outfit emphasized that she was equally as powerful and confident in her femininity. Regardless of the style, Singh’s self-expression does not conform to anyone’s expectations but her own.
This year, Singh continued her mission of Asian underrepresented designers. Her jewelry—including a custom diamond handpiece that wrapped across her fingers. “Tonight I was thrilled to wear jewelry from an incredible Indian designer, IVAR. The piece completely bedazzled my left hand, and I got so many compliments about it,” she gushed.
Accompanying the gown and jewelry were Wandler heels and green glossy nails by Perla, giving her ensemble a timeless feel—a quiet fusion of past, present, and future.
Beauty played a key role in capturing the night’s energy, with Singh’s glam team adding hints of sparkle into every detail. “Vanity Fair is all about shimmer and shine, and that’s exactly what my eye makeup was serving,” she said.
Makeup artist Aaron Paul added warmth and dimension to her look with Dior Forever Skin Contour in Tan. A pop of green shimmer on her lids mirrored the gown’s liquid effect, a small, intentional detail that made the whole look cohesive. “The bronzed sculpted skin from head to toe is what really pulls the look together,” shared Paul.
Hair stylist Gui completed the transformation with sleek, wet-look hair that mirrored the gown’s fluidity, using Rōz Santa Lucia Styling Oil to create a shine that would last through the night’s celebrations. “The word that describes the hair mood tonight is sophisticated with an edge,” said Gui.
Singh’s Vanity Fair look marked a full-circle moment, embracing both boldness and vulnerability. As she declared, “I’m someone who can rock a power suit or a skintight dress without needing to fit into any box or label.” That night, she demonstrated that the most powerful statement is the freedom to show up exactly as you are. Her journey is sure to inspire others to embrace their own unique style and express themselves freely.
